NIAGARA joins the ZeroPollution4Water Cluster with the ambition to contribute with technical findings, methodologies and policy recommendations, as well as to create synergies with the project members.
The ZeroPollution4Water Cluster (ZP4WC, 2023), coordinated by Water Europe (WE, 2025), has recently welcomed five new Horizon Europe projects, including NIAGARA. The addition of these new projects will strengthen the cluster’s mission to achieve water without pollution and will reinforce the efforts to tackle the global challenge of future access to drinking water.

Initiated in 2023, in partnership with the European Commission, the ZP4CW seeks innovation and synergy in the water sector. The Cluster is an initiative that originated from the coalition of seven projects from two Horizon Europe calls in 2022. The original projects united aiming to improve water quality in Europe, safeguard drinking water resources and protect groundwater against the harmful impacts of global warming and climate change. The final goal of the Cluster is to facilitate a suitable collaborative atmosphere in which Cluster members can develop advanced preventive and mitigation strategies for the mentioned issues, generate effective risk assessment and management systems and innovative treatment solutions for drinking and groundwater.
An open call and a rigorous recruitment process coordinated by WE were launched in order to ensure that new joining projects align with the cluster mission and expertise. The evaluation and inclusion of the new projects followed a structured process in which the main requirements were
- Relevance to the Cluster objectives.
- Predisposition to enrol and participate in the established working groups.
- Innovation proposition and its affinity with other member projects.
NIAGARA joins the ZP4WC with the ambition to contribute technical findings, methodologies and policy recommendations, as well as to engage in Cluster activities, collaborations and initiatives. The other joining projects are ELEKTRA, PRISTINE, CASCADE and D4UNOFF.
Next steps of the addition process were a kick-off meeting in which all projects were able to briefly present their consortium and their scientific approach, challenges and expectations, which allowed to identify the most suitable working groups to join and activities to contribute to. The new project will have the opportunity to join Cluster meetings, events and publications, as well as they will be appointed to represent the cluster in upcoming conferences and forums.
